ETFO AGM
Speaking to a Motion at the Annual General Meeting
I am excited to be elected
and work on your behalf.
I am running for Vice President, Open of our ETFO Halton local because I am passionate about the benefits that a strong local brings to its members and I believe that I can make an important contribution. I am currently proactively working for you in an active leadership role, both within my school and the ETFO Halton local. I have a good understanding of the collective agreement, am responsive to the needs of members, and am willing to directly address issues with admin.
I am an experienced educator with 25 years of teaching experience across all divisions, in the south and in the north, at large, medium, and small schools, and in special education. I embed my passion for social justice and love for inquiry into my current role as a grade 3-4 teacher. This breadth and depth of experience will support my role as a member of the executive.
However, it is in my role as co-chair of the Political Action/Public Relations committee that I feel I have made the most significant contribution to the local. The committee has grown under my leadership during an uncertain time, and reflects my ability to engage members, develop and empower the capacity of all members, think creatively, and act with integrity. The committee has had a number of new initiatives under my leadership, including the development and presentation of a climate change workshop for teachers, the development of resolutions for the ETFO annual meeting—including the implementation of a resolution to include climate change in the curriculum—and many successful political events.

I have known Jen for a number of years. Jen's commitment to the students and staff of Halton is to be commended. Through my time spent working alongside her, I have seen firsthand Jen's capable, inclusive, and collaborative leadership style in action. She will be an effective and capable representative for ETFO Halton members and I highly recommend her for the position Vice-President.

I met Jen when I began working with her two years ago. Jen was quick to welcome me and made me feel part of the school community. It wasn't long until I learned that Jen is not only committed to the success and wellbeing of her students but is very proactive in advocating on behalf of her colleagues as well. As a dedicated steward, Jen effectively communicates and is a strong liaison between teachers and the administrative team. As a passionate educator, I have seen Jen continuously plan activities that fosters her students' 21st-century learning skills and is connected to real-world problems (e.g., Girls' Activism and the Environment).
Jen also demonstrates culturally responsive pedagogy (CRRP) in her classroom by ensuring multiple voices and perspectives are incorporated into her programming. To date, Jen is one of the very few educators I have met that are outspoken and not afraid to speak up when the stakes are high (e.g., speaking up for more equitable practices). Accordingly, I wholeheartedly endorse Jen for position of Vice President. I have no doubt that she would be a strong candidate for this position and will exceed expectations.

A colleague of mine was struggling with an equity issue, and we reached out to Jen for advice. She was so knowledgeable and supportive and immediately connected us with the right people to help with the issue. She is fantastic and I was so thankful for her guidance.

I have worked with Jen Reid for 5 years. In the time I have known her, I have witnessed her dedication to the students, staff and the profession. She is a passionate and compassionate educator who collaborates with all staff. Each year, she enthusiastically takes on a key leadership role within the school and in that role she works tirelessly to ensure all staff are informed of union matters.
~ Denise Henderson
Jen's devotion to her Union role is inspiring. We have been working together for many years now, and she has been a strong voice on staff since she began. She is always willing to advocate on behalf of the members at the school, no matter what the issue is. Jen has developed a strong working relationship with the different administrators we have had over the years, and can discuss the big issues with them whenever necessary.
Jen is always looking for ways to collaborate with other teachers, both inside and outside the school. We have collaborated on various lessons and activities over the years, and she is amazing to work with. It is all of these reasons and more that I KNOW Jen Reid will make an amazing Vice President, and should definitely get your vote!

In my former position as Teacher-Librarian, Jen and I got to work collaboratively on multiple projects that aimed to leverage technology and library resources in ways that would engage her learners. Meeting with Jen to plan for the projects and activities gave me not only the opportunity to see Jen's 'out of the box' thinking and her interest in trying new ways to motivate and engage students, but also her drive to reach all learners through differentiation.
There was never only one way for Jen. She was also very flexible in her ability to adjust on the fly based on what she was seeing in her students throughout the learning experience. Seeing Jen in action as a co-teacher and colleague it was also always clear that she is a compassionate and empathetic educator, leader, and person.

I have known Jennifer Reid for many years and have been on a couple of committees with her. She is passionate about what she does and always gives her best, going above and beyond every time. She is a reliable team player and when working with her you are amazed at how she can accomplish so many things. In a world where we all seem to procrastinate, she knows how to set a date and follows through on tasks. Her positive energy allows her to get things done in a fair and non confrontational way. She is always considerate of others and respectful.
